Origin of the coffee

Of the more than 17,000 islands that make up Indonesia, one stands out the most. Sumatra is not only the country's largest island, but also a special place with high plateaus and deep valleys. This is where a special variety of coffee grows.

In the whole land of coffee, you'll hardly find a coffee with a more exquisite essence than the Indonesian Mandheling variety. Its rich bouquet of flavours is unique. It contains notes of chocolate, cedar, spices and even hints of wine, and is the result of the humid climate and volcanic soil so fertile in this region of the world. The superior Arabica coffee beans have an intense, full flavour and low acidity because they are obtained by the unique Giling Basah method.

This unique method is attributed to the early growers, who discovered that a coffee without the 'parchment' layer required much less drying time, which allowed the entire coffee-making process to be accelerated. In addition to the economic advantages of this process, they also obtained the unique Arabica flavours, that have won them admirers around the world.

The personality of this coffee is complemented by the quality and clarity of taste, which are guaranteed by a rigorous control of the coffee beans and a triple-check of their defects.

Indonesia Mandheling coffee is grown on the high slopes of Mount Leuser in the central-western region of Sumatra, Balak. The name of the coffee does not come from the region where it is grown, as is usually the case, but from the indigenous 'Mandailling' group. Formed on the volcanic remains of islands in the Malay Archipelago - the islands Sumatra, Sulawesi and Java are ideal places to grow coffee, thanks to the mineral-rich soil and humid equatorial climate.
