N°08 pocket knife with whistle, stainless steel, 8.5 cm, "Outdoor Junior", Green - Opinel

N°08 pocket knife, equipped with whistle, from the "Outdoor" range, blade length 8.5 cm, made from stainless steel, produced by Opinel.

Its very strong blade (2.5 mm thick) is serrated on a 3.5 cm portion, making it suitable for cutting natural or synthetic cords. Also on the blade of the knife is a special key-shaped cut-out for opening metal shackles with a U-shaped thread (shackle), 4 to 10 mm thick, used for anchoring/rigging equipment in sailing.

The handle is water and temperature resistant. It is fitted with a whistle and ends with a line that can be attached to the backpack.

Martensitic stainless steel
The stainless steel used to manufacture OPINEL knife blades is optimized to guarantee both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance.
The knife blade offers excellent sharpness and high abrasion (wear) resistance, allowing it to withstand the usual contact with hard materials such as ceramics before requiring resharpening. Stainless steel has the advantage of not requiring special maintenance under normal use, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits when put in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent...).

Stainless steel hardness: 55-57 HRC.

The handle
The handle is made from fiberglass-reinforced polyamide to withstand shock, moisture and extreme temperatures (-40 °C to +80 °C). The integrated 110-decibel survival whistle works regardless of weather conditions.

Safety ring
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted on all foldable knives from the N°06 model
onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade when it is closed (safety during transport).
