Product description
Folding knife XL N°13, with a stainless steel blade and a beechwood handle, produced by Opinel.
The N°13 knife is appreciated by collectors and is also particularly useful when eating outdoors, such as during hikes or barbecues.
Martensitic stainless steel
The stainless steel used to manufacture OPINEL blades is optimized to guarantee both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance.
The blade features an extremely sharp edge and high resistance to abrasion (wear), allowing it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramic before needing to be sharpened again. Stainless steel has the advantage of not requiring special maintenance under normal conditions of use, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits when exposed to prolonged contact with aggressive environments (acid, salt water, detergent...).
Stainless steel hardness: 55–57 HRC.
Yatagan blade
The classic Opinel blade adopts a Yatagan shape. The Yatagan shape is inspired by the traditional Turkish saber, with the tip slightly curved upward. The blade is ground to an exclusive convex profile that provides strength to the blade and allows efficient resharpening.
Handle
Beech is the most commonly used wood for manufacturing Opinel handles. Sourced from France, the beech used is hard, easy to work with, and durable. With a uniform appearance, its light color ranges from yellow to pink. It is characterized by the presence of numerous fine dark veins.
Safety ring
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is mounted on all folding knives starting with model N°06. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety during use), it is now also possible to lock the blade when it is closed (safety during transport).
Blade length: 22 cm
Handle length: 27.5 cm
